PREFACE: I know this is a lot. I get it. I’m apologizing now, BUT I think we can get through this if we are all just patient and courteous. This might be a gate man’s once-in-a-lifetime 2 hours of fame – let him have it! Yes, it might be the only rodeo you go to with Mounted Patrol, just let them have their moment. Remember your actions reflect on us and the associations and when we talk to committees, I tell them we have the best contestants there are! 🙂 Everyone wants to be a cowboy / cowgirl – enjoy the life we get to live!
Information you want to know:
(Not my rules, just passing along the information!)
Health Papers / Coggins
– you must have them
– Health Papers within 30 days of the event
– negative Coggins for out-of-state horses
– Enter through Gate 6 off of Dean Ave
– the State Vet will be there to check – if the vet is gone, mounted patrol will be reviewing your paperwork – please use every ounce of patience and kindness you have
Parking
– Rodeo contestants should park in the grass lot EAST of the Cattle Barn
Rodeo Office
– will be in the west end of the Jacobson building, as usual – you must enter the MAIN WEST doors to get in
– please be as kind and courteous as possible – the people working the doors are hired by the State Fairgrounds and just doing what they’re told
– DO NOT start fights with the elderly man / woman at the door
Stalls
– if you’re staying the night, you need one; no tie-outs
– if you’re only staying one night, reserve a stall here: https://iahorsefair.com/portfolio/rodeo-stalls/ (it’s $50 for a night)
– if you need a stall for all weekend, reserve it here: https://iahorsefair.com/registration/ (it’s $100 for the weekend)
– bedding is included
– stalls are in the Cattle Barn
– pick up your stall packet at the barn office
– clean stalls to the aisle
Camping
– overnight stay is in the camping areas only
– no staying over night in between barns
– you’ll be billed by the Iowa State Fairgrounds (it’s $32 per night)
– water & electric
– no horses, no open fires, pets on a leash
Buddy Passes
– Each contestant who is a CURRENT MEMBER will receive 1 buddy pass into the rodeo for the night they are competing

– there are several different tickets and packages available; make sure you’re purchasing the correct one
– Friday – $20, Saturday – $25 (kids 3 and under are free)

Vendor Shopping
– Vendor Show in the Varied Industries should have free entry after 4:30 pm
